World Around Us

The World Around Us promotes an enquiry-based approach to learning. At Foxfield school the world around me offers as much opportunity as possible for our pupils to develop a better understanding of the world around them through meaningful, real life practical experiences. Our thematic curriculum offers pupils the opportunity to have access and develop their skills through a broad and balanced experience of their lived world, with contextual learning essential. This will vary greatly from student to student; from themselves and their own bodies, to the local environment and beyond.  We are incredibly fortunate to have a vast amount of outdoor space, including our own school field, forest school, beach school and allotment to enable all pupils to be hands-on within the environment.

We believe that this curriculum area is essential as it ensures that our pupils are well prepared for life in a world where there are a multitude of viewpoints.  We enable the pupils to make their own informed decisions and to have the confidence to voice their views and opinions.

The topics taught have been specifically selected to ensure all pupils make progress and embed knowledge throughout the years at Foxfield. Our goal is for the learning that takes place within the topic of the world around me, to transcend into our pupil’s wider wellbeing, as well as their attitudes towards themselves and their future.
